Former industrialist’s home for sale

THE former home of an industrialist which later became a vicarage and most recently a parish hall is set to go under the hammer this month with a guide price of £300,000.

Ranmoor Parish Hall, in Ranmoor Road, Sheffield, was originally built in the late 19th century as a family home for Sir John Bingham, twice the city’s Master Cutler and head of silversmith Walker and Hall.

The Bingham family eventually gave the building to the church in the 1920s and it was converted into the vicarage for the nearby St John’s Church it was made into the parish centre in 1982.

Lucy Crapper, an auctioneer at Sheffield-based Blundells which is handling the sale, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a property which is steeped in history, with the possibility of several different uses subject to planning permission.

“The 4,000 sq ft stone-built property has been refurbished to an exceptionally high standard and is expected to attract a great deal of interest.”

The hall, which is in a conservation area, will be auctioned along with 27 other lots at the Hilton Sheffield Park Hotel on November 21 at 2pm.
