Frail great-grandma, 88, faces deportation to China, even though her family is in Sheffield

Yuying Peng, 88, arrived in the UK around ten years ago on a temporary visa but remained beyond her leave living with her daughter.

The elderly widow applied for further leave to remain on the basis of her private and family life in the UK - which was rejected.

But she is now appealing the decision, and says said she needed to remain in the UK because she requires care and support due to her age.

Mrs Peng also claims she has eight great-grandchildren who are all UK nationals - and no family members in China.

A decision on the appeal will be heard in court on July 11.

Legal firm Silverdale Solicitors, which is representing Ms Peng, said if she is sent back to China she will not get ‘the care she needs’. They say she receives support from her family in Sheffield ‘without help from the taxpayer’.

Ajid Miah, of Silverdale Solicitors said: “Her physical condition and consequent weakness which has ensued over the years and in particular her age are having significant impact on her ability to enjoy life independently.

“She feels such physical limitations with all her day to day activities. Ms Peng is unable to perform everyday tasks but this will further be inhibited without her family support in the UK.

“She is dependent on her daughters and grandchildren in the United Kingdom.

“Ms Peng has clearly enjoyed family life here in the UK.

“She has significant ties to the United Kingdom including but not limited to emotional ties.”
