A WOMAN has been ordered to pay back more than £6,000 after admitting benefit fraud.

Sarah Williamson, 37, of Fifth Avenue, Hull, pleaded guilty to two offences of dishonesty when she appeared at Hull Magistrates' Court.

Williams had failed to declare she was living with her partner between June 2006 and September 2007.

This led to overpayments in income support and housing and council tax benefits totalling 6,030.79.

As well as having to pay every penny back, Williamson was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and pay costs of 225.

Mark Bell, Hull Council's housing benefit security manager, said: "This case highlights the consequences individuals can face when conscious choices are made to steal money from the public purse."
