Free football sessions for children

A SERIES of free weekly football sessions for children is set to be launched in Sheffield, thanks to a £20,000 grant.

Sheffield Wednesday's community programme will be running the sessions after gaining funding from the "Your Community, Your Choice" scheme, launched by Sheffield Council and Sheffield Homes. The organisations

held events across the city, giving people the chance to comment on how the money should be spent.

The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme was named one of the winning projects and now the club will use the grant to fund 48 weeks of football activities for children in Gleadless Valley, Jordanthorpe, Batemoor and Lowedges.

Monthly tournaments are also planned and those aged over 16 will be given the chance to train as football coaches.
