Free swimming draws in children

ALMOST 15,000 youngsters have been making a splash in North Lincolnshire thanks to a free swimming project run by the local council.

North Lincolnshire Council said 14,787 under-16s had so far taken up its offer of free swimming during the school summer holidays.

The scheme is in operation at Ancholme Leisure Centre, Brigg, at Baysgarth Leisure Centre, Barton, at Riddings Pool and The Pods in Scunthorpe, and at Epworth Pool, which is run by the South Axholme Community Swimming Pool Association.

Coun Rob Waltham, Cabinet member for adult and children’s services at the council, said: “We made a commitment to provide free swimming for those under 16 and we’ve had a phenomenal response with over 14,000 visitors to our leisure centres. The recently opened Pods in Scunthorpe has seen over 7,200 young people take advantage of the offer and I’m really pleased with how successful it’s been.

“It’s not surprising as it is a fantastic venue.

“There’s still time left before the kids go back to school, so grab the offer while you can.”
