Fresh inquest into Jewish student's death

A new UK inquest has been ordered into the death of Jewish student Jeremiah Duggan whose body was found on a German road more than seven years ago.

A High Court judge said the evidence of possible "foul play" must be investigated after hearing that the 22-year-old from north London had attended a youth event organised by the far-right "cult like" LaRouche group.

A student at the British Institute and the Sorbonne in Paris, he had believed he was attending a conference on the problems in Iraq.

The German police ruled his death in March 2003 "a suicide by means of a traffic accident".

Lord Justice Elias, sitting in London with Mr Justice Aikenhead, said yesterday fresh evidence suggested the death may have occurred elsewhere and the accident "stage managed" to look like a road accident.

It was alleged, said the judge, that one member of the LaRouche group had told his mother: "We have hunted him down... it is right that he is dead, he is a traitor and a spy."
