Fresh outlook for popular folk festival

ARTISTS at Beverley Folk Festival will be performing outside as well as inside this year.

Organisers of the popular annual event, now in its 27th year, are expanding the “village green” area, with more stalls, an extra marquee and artists putting on short showcase slots on a platform outside.

The line-up so far includes The Demon Barber Roadshow, The Brighouse & Rastrick Brass Band, and the Martin Simpson Trio. Charlie Dore & The Hula Valley Orchestra, Blazin’ Fiddles and Ivan Brackenbury are also signed up.

An alternative campsite off Long Lane will also be on offer this year during the festival, which runs from June 18 to June 20.

Festival organiser Chris Wade said: “There’s going to be a lot more going on in the festival village. We are trying to encourage more locals and people from the region to come along and drop in for the day.

“There’ll be more stalls and another “alternative” marquee which will be non-musical. We are hoping to have films - watch this space.

“We are also hoping to be involved with Larkin25 (a series of events leading up to the 25th anniversary of the poet’s death.”
