Yesterday the police underwater search unit was at Ogden Reservoir, near Halifax, which Mr Rowling enjoyed visiting. Officers also searched nearby moorland and woodland.

At a press conference at Ogden Reservoir yesterday, Det Insp Ian Bryar, of Bradford South CID, revealed there had been a possible sighting of Mr Rowland at the the reservoir at around 11.30am on February 27, two hours after he went missing.

Mr Bryar urged anyone else who may have seen him to come forward.

“Clearly David’s family and the police are now concerned, it’s been nearly two weeks since there’s been any contact with him whatsoever,” he said.

He appealed directly to Mr Rowling, urging him or any friends and family who may know where he is to come forward to let police and his loved ones know he is safe.

Since his disappearance police have carried out searches around the Queensbury area, and the police helicopter has also been brought in to assist.

Yesterday’s search followed an emotional appeal by his family at a press conference last week.

Speaking to the media, one of his sisters, Brenda Rowling, said: “David, if you’re out there, we just want you to contact one of us or anybody and just let us know you’re safe.”

Police say there are no obvious reasons why Mr Rowling would have disappeared but he was feeling quite low. He has never been missing before.

Speaking at last week’s press conference, Det Insp Steve Snow said: “David is a very private man and has been leading a normal family life with his wife and young son.”

Mr Rowling is described as white, 5ft 8in tall and slim with short grey hair. He was wearing an olive-coloured cotton anorak, brown boots, grey/green cord jeans and a green jumper when he was last seen. He took nothing with him when he left home.

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Bradford South CID on 0845 60 60 606.
