Full steam ahead for Father's Day

Ed Bartholomew with his son Evan, three, aboard the Mallard at the National Railway museum in York where fathers with a passion for steam can win a Father's Day present to remember – a ride on the footplate of the world famous Mallard.

Visitors are being offered the opportunity in a free prize draw after the museum closes on Father's Day on Sunday June 20. One lucky person will win the once in a lifetime opportunity as Mallard is pulled from York to Locomotion, the NRM site in Shildon, County Durham, by the locomotive Tornado on Wednesday June 23. Sadly, rail schedules may mean the winner has to be prepared to stay up late

Yesterday Mallard made the first move of her journey when she was

shunted onto the NRM's famous turntable and into the workshop.
