Fund for stabbed Leeds teacher Ann Maguire tops £10,000

The Ann Maguire Educational Fund was launched by the married mother-of-two’s family after she was killed at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Halton Moor, Leeds, at the end of last month.

It will provide bursaries and support for the “enhancement and personal development” of young people through music, drama, language and dance.

Nearly £1,000 had already been given to the fund by the time Mrs Maguire’s funeral was held on May 16.

And yesterday it emerged that the total raised has now passed the £10,000 mark, thanks to more than 200 individual donations.

In a statement, the Maguire family said: “We would like to thank everybody for their kindness during these recent difficult weeks. We are very grateful and appreciate the many expressions of sympathy and condolence we have received and the support for the Ann Maguire Educational Fund.”

Donations to the fund – which is being co-ordinated by the Leeds Community Foundation charity – can be made via the www.justgiving.com/ann-maguire web page.

Cheques made payable to Leeds Community Foundation (Ann Maguire) can be posted to The Ann Maguire Educational Fund, Leeds Community Foundation, 51a St Paul’s Street, Leeds, LS1 2TE.

Mrs Maguire, 61, of Moortown, Leeds, was fatally stabbed in a lesson at Corpus Christi on April 28. She had taught there for more than 40 years and was due to retire in September. A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with Mrs Maguire’s murder and is due to go on trial later this year.
