Funding boost for projects to help communities across North York Moors

THE Government has pledged £280,000 to community projects across the North York Moors.

The extra funding boost, from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has been allocated to the North York Moors, Coast and Hills LEADER Programme

It is the second highest sum awarded nationwide.

As a result of the money, applications to fund new community-led projects of up to £30,000 are being invited.

Projects that retain or improve local services, provide facilities or activities for young people, or reduce the carbon footprint of a community are particularly welcome.

Peter Spencer, chair of the North York Moors, Coast and Hills LEADER Executive Group, said: “I am delighted that, thanks to the hard work of all involved, we are able to support more community-led projects that will make a real difference to the quality of life and economic prosperity of those living in the wider North York Moors area.”

In the past three years, the LEADER Programme has committed £2.3m funding to more than 50 projects in the North York Moors, Howardian Hills, Cleveland Hills and Vale of Pickering.
