Funding cheer for groups in Dragon's Den event

A BOXING club, a community allotment and a bingo machine have all won funding after groups pitched ideas in a Dragon's Den-style competition.

The Your Voice, Your Choice event saw 12 groups in the Orchard Park and Greenwood area of Hull bid for a slice of 10,000 health funding at an event at the Endsleigh Centre.

Eleven obtained the money they asked for and the final group received a contribution.

The successful bidders include City of Hull Amateur Boxing Club, which applied for 840 and the Rainbow Garden, which got 990 to run gardening workshops for children.

Health chiefs describe the event as an "experiment" but it could become more widely used in future as the NHS seek to find ways of giving people a greater voice in decisions.

The north locality director for NHS Hull, Andrew Phair, said: "We were not prescriptive and the sheer variety of ideas which people came up with was very impressive."
