Fundraiser joins firefighters to support great charity run

FIREfighters who have signed up for the Great Yorkshire Run to raise money for a Rotherham-based charity have persuaded its fundraising manager to join them in their effort.

Tina Harrison from Lost Chord, which organises musical events for people with dementia, said she had been inspired after hearing the firefighters had agreed to take part.

She said: “I was delighted to discover that 22 members of the fire and rescue team were planning to support us in this way. And when I met them I knew that I could do my bit too.”

Lost Chord provides “interactive musical experiences” for people living with dementia in 85 care homes across South Yorkshire, and employs singers and musicians to work with elderly patients.

Those involve believe that recognisable music helps improve life for people with dementia.

The Bupa Great Yorkshire Run takes place in Sheffield on Sunday October 9 and claims to be one of the biggest sporting charity events of the year. Lost Chord now hopes that other companies and organisations will follow the lead set by the firefighters.

Mrs Harrison said: “What I’d really like to see is as many people as possible joining us on the day, all wearing the Lost Chord colours and doing their bit to help us raise the £100,000 we need for our High Notes appeal and to maintain the service we already provide throughout the region.”

The charity’s celebrity patrons include Sir Cliff Richard, Dame Vera Lynn and Doncaster soprano Lesley Garrett and details of the appeal are now online at www.lost-chord.org.uk.
