Fundraisers organise three walks at once

IT WILL be the longest walk they’ve ever undertaken in their short lives.

But brothers George Seymour, four, and Ben Seymour, three, are looking forward to taking part in the first-ever Peaks Walk for All tomorrow, in aid of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

The youngsters, from Millhouses in Sheffield, will be dressed as knights and waving English flags – to mark George’s name and the fact that the event falls so near St George’s Day.

They’ll be taking on the five-mile route, the shortest of the three challenges on the day, with their grandparents Ted and Barbara Kirkman and their parents Jenny and Jon Seymour.

Mrs Seymour, 36, said: “With it being a family event and in the Peak District, with us living on the edge of the Peak District, it was just ideal.”

About 1,000 walkers will descend on the village of Hope tomorrow morning for the Peaks Walk For All, which includes three separate walks of five miles, 12 miles and near-marathon 24 miles.

Organisers said they are urging all those taking part to take the train or car share, if possible.

A spokesman for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal said: “Parking at the start in Hope will be limited, but walkers are able to take advantage of special train services.

“Thanks to Northern Rail and Trans-Pennine Express, there will be limited charity £10 return tickets for trains running to Hope from Sheffield and Manchester.”

They added that a “handful” of places are still available in the 24-mile walk, which takes in Peak District landmarks such as Kinder Scout – scene of the landmark mass trespass 80 years ago. More details have been posted online – at www.forallevents.co.uk.
