Fundraising event for armed forces

AN ANNUAL military-style fundraising event is aiming to collect tens of thousands of pounds for war veterans to mark the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

The Night Before the Colours event is aiming to cement Scarborough’s growing reputation for its commitment to supporting the nation’s armed forces.

The formal dinner on November 4 will raise cash for the Royal British Legion’s Scarborough Poppy Appeal and the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Fund. The first Night Before the Colours event in 2009 raised £22,000.

Organiser Major John Senior claimed the evening will give guests the chance to experience a formal military dinner where “specific protocol and etiquette must be adhered to”. He added: “It is also a fabulous social and entertaining evening, which helps raise funds for our much deserved heroes both at home and abroad serving the country.”

The evening will include a candlelit four-course meal in the newly renovated Spa Grand Hall, a firework display and music by the Band of the Yorkshire Volunteers. Tickets priced at £45 each went on sale yesterday and can be booked by calling 01723 232323.
