Funeral for father who killed family

Have your say

A FUNERAL has been held for a father who is thought to have murdered his wife and two sons.

The cremation for Richard Smith, 37, was held yesterday at Rawdon Crematorium in Leeds.

It is believed that Mr Smith murdered his sons Ben, nine, Arran, 13 months, and wife Clair, 36, before he took his own life by setting a fire in a bedroom at their home in Pudsey.

Clair, Ben and Arran were cremated following a joint service at the same crematorium on Tuesday this week.

The hearse carrying Mr Smith’s coffin, which was decked with flowers, made its way into the crematorium followed by a single car carrying members of his family.

A steady stream of mourners had arrived at the crematorium to attend the service.

All four were found dead on Sunday, December 11.

Arran died from a stab wound to the neck. Ben died from suffocation and had also been stabbed.

Clair died from a stab would to the chest and compression to the neck.

Mr Smith, a football coach, died from smoke inhalation.
