Funeral for Whitby demolition worker killed in power station collapse

Bikers from around the country will today attend the funeral of one of the demolition workers killed in the Didcot power station collapse.

Mick Collings, 53, was a much-loved family man and keen motorcyclist who died in the accident at the power plant last month.

Mr Collings, married to Lynn, lived in Brotton, near Whitby, and was a member of the Teesriders Motorcycle Club.

His widow invited fellow bikers to join him on his last journey from their home to Kirkleatham Crematorium, near Middlesbrough.

And the motorcycle club has had responses from riders across the country who want to pay their respects.

A family obituary in a local newspaper said: “Always happy and smiling, Michael loved everyone.

“He always lived life to the full – working to provide for his family, making improvements to his home, keeping in close contact with his family and friends, organising rock music events and attending motorbike rallies throughout the UK and Europe with his wife Lynn, his ‘best lass’.

“This wonderful man is no longer with us and has left a huge void in all our lives.”

Fellow demolition workers Ken Cresswell, 57, and John Shaw, 61, both from Rotherham, and Chris Huxtable remain missing following the power station collapse in Oxfordshire on February 23.
