Gala dinner on menu for Chilean miners

Three of the Chilean miners rescued after spending more than two months trapped underground last year were in Leeds yesterday and had lunch at the San Carlo’s Flying Pizza restaurant in Roundhay.

The men, from left Juan Carlos Aguilar, Luis Urzua Iribarren and Sammy Avalos, were among the 33 trapped miners who were hoisted to safety from the crumbling San Jose gold and copper mine in northern Chile.

Yesterday they met the chair of the Make a Dream charity, Stuart Levin, right, and today they will attend Make A Dream’s annual gala dinner in Leeds in support of sick and terminally-ill children.

The Leeds-based charity makes dreams come true for Yorkshire’s sick and terminally ill children. Earlier this year the miners signed a movie deal.
