Gallery lights up regiment’s historical role

A FREE tour of the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infrantry Museum is being offered to celebrate Yorkshire Day.

The museum, based within Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery on Chequer Road, looks at the history of the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, the famous Yorkshire regiment whose success at the decisive Battle of Minden in 1759 is honoured on August 1 each year.

Doncaster Mayor Peter Davies said: “What a perfect way to celebrate Yorkshire Day, visiting a museum that tells us more about those who we honour on the day. I am proud that Doncaster homes The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Museum and the free entry means everyone can take advantage of it on this special day.”

The tours will take place at 11am and 2.30pm. Visitors do not have to book and can just call into the museum at these times.
