Galloway takes aim at town hall seats

RESPECT Party MP George Galloway is hoping his success in taking Bradford West from Labour will help his party take some council seats in next month’s local government elections.

He had suggested the party could put up candidates in all 30 wards on May 3 but the party will be contesting just 12.

The 12 wards are Bolton and Undercliffe, Bowling and Barkerend, Bradford Moor, City, Clayton and Fairweather Green, Great Horton, Heaton, Little Horton, Manningham, Thornton and Allerton, Tong, and Wyke.

The Little Horton ward is held by the council’s Labour leader, Ian Greenwood.

The British National Party has just one candidate, Eric Baxendale, who is standing in Queensbury.

Last week Mr Galloway, who celebrated his by-election victory with 2,000 supporters at a rally, told them: “Never will they underestimate me again. Never will they underestimate you again.”

He attacked the city council and its record.
