Gang behind spate of raids strikes again

A BURGLARY gang suspected of being responsible for a series of high-value thefts in the East Riding thought to have struck again at one of the region’s top golf clubs.

More than £4,000 of gardening equipment was taken when a metal storage container was broken into at Hull Golf Club, in Packman Way, Kirkella.

Among the items taken were two orange coloured Echo strimmers, five light grey and orange Stihl strimmers, two Stihl head units, two Knapsack blowers and an Allen petrol lawn mower.

More than one person and a vehicle are believed to have been involved.

The incident, at 12.15am on Wednesday, is similar to other break-ins in the area in recent weeks.

Police are now urging people and businesses who use containers to store valuable property to consider fitting stronger locks, motion sensitive lighting and CCTV, while watching for anything suspicious.

A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “The public are also being asked to be vigilant of people or vehicles acting suspiciously in the vicinity of storage containers and make notes of registration numbers.”

In recent incidents, an off-road motorcycle and a large range of gardening equipment were stolen when a shipping container was forced open in Hessle, and an equestrian centre in Beverley has also been targeted.
