Gang of youths attacks taxi driver

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an attack on a taxi driver who was forced to stop in the road by a gang of youths in Illingworth Road, Halifax.

When the victim wound down his window and asked the group of eight to move one of them lent into his car and took the keys. The driver was left with a swollen nose after he was hit when he got out of the car at 3am on Sunday.

Inspector Tony Nicholson, of Calderdale CID, said: "Attacks on taxi drivers are not acceptable and we are treating this incident as a top priority.

"We are working very closely with local taxi firms to prevent future incidents such as this and have already worked to get CCTV installed in some cabs.

"I would appeal to anyone out there who knows who is responsible for this attack to come forward. Taxi drivers have a living to make and should be allowed to go about their business in safety."
