Garden raiders snatch man's ashes

THIEVES got more than they bargained for when they stole a planter from a Hull garden – it contained a man's cremation ashes.

The large brown tub was taken from the rear garden of an address on Newtondale some time between 9.15pm last Saturday and 1pm last Sunday. The planter contained pink roses and the ashes of the husband of a 67-year-old woman living at the address. Police said she was "deeply distressed".

Pc Rich West, from the East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "The victim in this case is deeply upset by the theft of her husband's ashes and is desperate for them to be returned.

"I am appealing for any information on the whereabouts of the planter as we want to return it to the victim as quickly as possible.

"I would also ask anyone who has the planter to return it to the owner so she can be reunited with this extremely sentimental item."
