Dame Fiona Reynolds, Director General of the National Trust, and Kevin Dessoy, property manager at Nostell Priory, near Wakefield, officially opened its refurbished stables yesterday.
Over the last 15 years, the National Trust has acquired parkland, conserved buildings and created access across the estate for walking, cycling and events at the historic site. The culmination of this work is the stables, a grand 18th century building, which has undergone a £5.2m transformation.
“It’s wonderful to see the transformation of the historic stables into first class visitor facilities,” Dame Fiona said yesterday.
The stables, at the former home of the Winn family, now boast a new welcome area for visitors, courtyard cafe, facilities for events and weddings and office space for community meetings. PICTURE: BRUCE ROLLINSON.
