Get into Christmas mood by bidding for present and helping others

Yorkshire Post readers have the opportunity to bid for a whole host of exciting Christmas presents, while also raising money for the Communities in Need appeal in an online auction to be launched on Saturday.

On the Yorkshire Post website you can place bids for a range of unique lots, with all the proceeds going to the appeal, helping vital projects like the one above.

Up for grabs are a special owners badge for the Dante Festival at York Racecourse in May 2011, a behind-the-scenes look at the Houses of Parliament with a Yorkshire MP as a guide with first class train tickets, and two tickets for any West Yorkshire Playhouse performance and an overnight stay at the City Inn hotel in Leeds.

Readers can also bid for a family rover ticket for North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and a place on course at Bettys Cookery School amongst other possible Christmas goodies.

New lots will be announced every week in the drive to raise funds for the appeal, which is being supported by Grant Thornton.

Emma Wray, the administration manager for Bettys Cooking School in Harrogate, which has been open since 2001, said the course on offer would be able to cater to any interest so that the successful bidder will have a wide and exciting choice to pick from.

She said: "From breadmaking and pastry making to cake baking – there's all sorts of things.

Jonathan Riley, managing partner of Grant Thornton's Leeds office, said: "As a firm we're committed to supporting community causes, and we're sure that people will embrace the festive spirit and bid generously."
