Ghostly goings-on as haunted castle launches biggest Halloween event

BOLSOVER Castle – allegedly one of the most haunted castles in the country – launched its largest Halloween event to date yesterday.

All week the castle near Chesterfield will be staging family activities throughout the day such as spooky storytelling, pumpkin trails and walks with a 17th-century ghost hunter.

On the evenings of Saturday, October 30, and Sunday, October 31 the castle will also be lit up to create an eerie atmosphere.

English Heritage visitor operations manager Andrea Hill said: "We have brought in a specialist lighting company to illuminate the castle and grounds to create a wonderful Halloween atmosphere.

"Bolsover is reputedly one of England's most haunted castles. As part of our two special Halloween evenings we will be resurrecting some of the castle's most shocking supernatural tales.

"Visitors will encounter all manor of ghosts and ghouls lurking in the shadows, and can expect some Gothic magic, psychological illusion and spooky story-telling."

Last entry for the Castle at Night event is at 8.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Ordinary admission charges, plus an extra charge of 1, will apply for the children's daytime events.
