Giant gas storage plans resubmitted

ENERGY giant E.ON has resubmitted plans for a giant gas storage facility on the East Coast.

E.ON UK secured planning permission for the facility which will have 10 underground storage caverns at Whitehill Farm, near Withernwick, to the north of Aldbrough, three years ago.

Since then other developments – a wind farm also at Withernwick and a giant straw burning power station at nearby Tansterne – have been given the go-ahead.

To the south of Aldbrough, just a few miles away, villagers have already seen a sprawling development built to service nine underground gas caverns.

E.ON said a "minor" change had been made to the site boundary. They say extensive landscaping will help screen the plant.

Councillors will consider the plans later this year. For more information log on to www.eon-uk.com/gas_storage/whitehill
