Giant pumpkin feeds Halloween mania

With Halloween on the horizon, a Yorkshire pub and restaurant has taken advantage of seasonal produce to spice up its menu with a giant pumpkin.

The Bull At Broughton in Broughton, near Skipton, has taken delivery of the huge 705lb vegetable.

Nigel Haworth, above, a Michelin star chef and joint proprietor of Northcote Group, was at The Bull to collect the pumpkin from Class One Fresh Produce.

Giant pumpkins have become increasingly popular and there is strong competition to grow the world's largest. The current world record was set only yesterday in Wisconsin with a pumpkin weighing a whopping 1,810lbs.

The UK record has just been broken by the Paton Brothers based in Hampshire with a 1,503lbs giant.
