Giant snail helps get half-term nature celebration up to speed

THE daughter of Harewood's head gardener, Trevor Nicholson, came face-to-face with a giant snail yesterday.

Izzy Nicholson, nine, was at Harewood's glasshouses to be introduced to a giant African snail to publicise activities for the half term break that celebrate nature and the coming of spring.

The programme of events at Harewood House, near Leeds, takes place between Friday February 18 and Sunday February 27.

To celebrate all things natural, the Harewood team has put together a schedule of family activities that highlight the great outdoors.

All the activities and events are included in single ticket price.

They include a chance to meet and get up close to bugs, grow fruit, vegetables and flowers and follow nature trails around the grounds and gardens.

Visitors can also listen to storytelling, learn how to decorate plant pots or watch seasonal and historic cooking demonstrations "below stairs" in the house.
