Gifts to county go on show

York Art Gallery opens a new exhibition today looking at a century of contemporary art. Curator Laura Turner with Seamus Nicholson's Wajid admires some of the finest works of art collected in Yorkshire over the last 100 years.

The new display has been organised by the Contemporary Art Society as part of its centenary celebrations and features sculpture, photography, painting and drawings it has donated to museums across Yorkshire. More than 30 works have been chosen, including Tacita Dean's photographs of the Gellert Baths in Budapest, taken in 1998 and donated to Harrogate because of their link to the spa town.

Ms Turner said: "This exhibition brings together a wide variety of works which have been given to galleries all over Yorkshire for people to enjoy.
