Girl, 12, and mother seriously injured in knife incident

A 12-year-old girl and her mother were fighting for life yesterday after suffering knife wounds in what police said was a "domestic incident".

The pair were rushed to hospital in a critical condition on Saturday afternoon after they were both discovered with stab wounds in Lady Margaret Road, Southall, west London.

Police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, a Scotland Yard source said.

The mother was aged between 30 and 40, officers said

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called following reports of two females suffering from stabbing injuries.

"Officers discovered a woman believed to be aged 30 to 40 and a girl with knife injuries."

London Ambulance Service and the air ambulance were called.

The police spokesman added: "They have both been taken to a north London hospital where they are both described as being in a critical condition."

The mother and her daughter were injured in a park across the road from the family home, neighbours said.

Two police tents were erected on a patch of grass behind the street as forensic officers continued checked the area.

The alarm was raised after a Polish dog walker found the pair on Saturday, one neighbour added.

The 46-year-old man, who lives nearby but did not want to be named, said: "The helicopter came down this afternoon. There was no one else about, we are told, apart from the Polish man."
