MORE than 500 schoolgirls from Sheffield High School gathered on the playing fields in Broomhill to attempt to create a moving image of the five interlocking coloured Olympic rings.

A spokesman for the independent girls’ school said yesterday: “The shape of the rings and the number 2012 were formed, emulating not only the shape, but also the unity which was intended by the original creation of the Olympic image by the founder of the modern Olympic movement, Pierre de Coubertin.”
