Glamour to fore at Pride festival

THE annual Leeds Pride festival took place in the city centre yesterday, attracting a crowd thought to number more than 20,000.

The event, for the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans-sexual communities, is now in its sixth year and has become established as one of the city’s main cultural events.

Yesterday’s entertainment started with a parade through the city centre, from Millennium Square, with a wide range of entertainment provided by DJs, musicians and others, following a theme of ‘glitz and glamour’.

More than 20 bars supported the event, with organisers expecting the partying to continue late into the night. Organisers believe the event brings £1.5m to the city’s economy and say the festival is designed to celebrate the diversity of the LGBT communities.
