Gloomy outlook forhigh street sales
Storm clouds gathered on Britain's high street yesterday after a shock fall in retail sales.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics revealed a surprise sales fall of 0.5 per cent in August, bringing to an end six months of growth. Retailer John Lewis joined a growing number of major players to flag concerns about the outlook.
