Go-ahead for ‘landmark’ retail project

A NEW £15m “landmark” retail development in Sheffield city centre has been given planning permission by the council.

The three-storey glass-fronted building on The Moor, opposite Debenhams, will incorporate a three-floor store and two smaller shops, with a huge digital screen on the outside.

It is intended that the building will be a “gateway” to The Moor, on which Sheffield’s new indoor market is also being built.

As part of the development, the Moor’s landlords Scottish Widows Investment Partnership Property Trust will also be improving the “public realm” with new paving and street furniture.

Work is set to start next year.

Ranald Phillips, director of Ashcroft, the asset and development manager appointed to oversee the development, said yesterday: “This is a high quality retail scheme for the city.”
