Go-ahead likely for apartment block

A NEW block of nine apartments is set to be built in Baxter Road, Wadsley Bridge, despite objections from neighbours.

Councillors in Sheffield have been recommended to approve the outline planning application at a committee meeting tomorrow.

The application replaces one submitted and approved four years ago, which now needs to be renewed. Planning officials say the development has "already been approved in principle" and should be approved once again.

Neighbours say, however, that nearby roads are heavily congested, especially when Sheffield Wednesday are playing at home, and the new apartments would create further traffic.

Another objector argued that parking restrictions should be imposed along Baxter Road and Baxter Mews.

In the report set to go before tomorrow's meeting, Sheffield Council's planners say: "This application for the renewal of outline consent for the erection of nine apartments in a three-storey block is considered to be acceptable in principle.

"The plans demonstrate that the nine residential units can be accommodated on site with sufficient parking and amenity space and will not harm the amenity of neighbouring residential properties."
