Go-ahead urged fortourist log cabins plan

A SCHEME to demolish farm buildings to make way for holiday accommodation for tourists is set to be given the go-ahead despite protests by parish councillors.

Planning consent is being sought to flatten buildings at Low Bonwick Farm, Skipsea Road, Bewholme, to make way for 20 eco-friendly cabins for holidaymakers.

The site is between the sea and the Far Grange leisure complex, which includes a country park, golf course, bar, restaurant, country market and gym.

A pathway that leads through the farmer’s field would link the cabins to the existing attraction. Planning officers have said the farm already had consent for some leisure facilities.

Now the developers are seeking approval for wider recreational use to help the farm diversify. The farm will continue to grow crops but will also operate a rough shoot and fishing pond as well as having the holiday cabins.

They would be built out of logs and each would be equipped with a wood burner and catalytic converter and would have underfloor heating.

Bewholme Parish Council says the road leading to the site is busy with cyclists all year around. Parish councillors also claim the scheme will generate too much traffic on Skipsea Lane.

Because there are no plans for a site office, members are also concerned there will be nothing to stop people staying in the cabins all the time, rather than just using them for holidays.

The parish council has voiced fears over lack of water pressure in the area, which it fears could get worse if more properties are built.

Planning officers have said that while there will be an increase in traffic, Skipsea Lane is not busy enough for this to be a concern. Worries about water pressure were noted, but had not been raised by Yorkshire Water.

Councillors will be urged to vote yes to the scheme on Thursday.
