the good causes that benefit

The hundreds who took part in the Peaks Walk were raising money and awareness for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, its partner charities and a host of other good causes.

Jane’s Appeal, set up by the late Jane Tomlinson CBE to raise funds for children’s and cancer charities, has raised more than £3m and is looking to take its total to £5m. Edale Mountain Rescue, whose teams were on-hand yesterday, and the Friends of the Peak District, dedicated to protecting the local landscape, are among the event’s partner charities.

The others are Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, which covers South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and North West Lincolnshire; Yorkshire’s own Heart Research UK, which funds research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease, and Cash for Kids.

National charities receiving a boost are Macmillan Cancer Support, Breast Cancer Campaign, and Diabetes UK.
