Good morning – we've scooped £2m

A couple spoke of their elation yesterday at their £2.6m Lotto jackpot in the week they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

Philip Sawyer, 60, and his wife Sandra, 61, who are splitting the win with their two grown-up daughters, now plan to buy a house and a new BMW.

Former car salesman Mr Sawyer, from Shard End, Birmingham, said he got up at 7am on Thursday, made a cup of tea and then checked the Lottery results. "I thought I'd won 10 and then I realised that all six numbers were there – it was a very good feeling."

But Mr Sawyer honoured his wife's request not to be woken until 8am, opting to read a book before telling her of the win.
