Grand opening means silver screen is back in town again

Savoy Cinema, which cost £3m to build and has six screens, is set to be officially launched on Friday, March 23.

Bespoke double seats have been custom-designed and are being manufactured in San Diego, California, before being shipped across the Atlantic to Worksop ahead of the launch.

James Collington, managing director at Savoy Cinemas, said: “We are delighted to bring the first ever fully-digital cinema to Bassetlaw.

“Our goal is to provide film lovers with the very best in customer service, in a high quality facility, with state-of-the-art technology, to provide the best overall entertainment experience for the entire district to enjoy.”

Graham Oxby, leader of Bassetlaw District Council, added: “This has been a long time coming and I warmly welcome Savoy to Worksop.

“We have needed a cinema since the old Regal closed down and I am delighted that the people of Bassetlaw will no longer have to leave the district to see the latest, first class films.”

Planning permission for the new Savoy Cinema was granted early in 2011, and building work began in June last year.

It has taken around nine months for the new multiplex cinema to be created.

Specialist acoustic paneling, which ensures “optimum acoustic properties”, as well as acoustic roof lining systems, have also been installed to ensure “unrivalled surround sound quality.”
