Grandstand tickets released to give Leeds fans unrivalled views of ITU World Triathlon Series event

Sports fans hoping to see Leeds' own top class triathletes battle it out to the finish line on home turf can now apply for exclusive grandstand tickets.

Organisers of the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds are offering visitors the chance to buy tickets to sit in a 1,300-seat Millennium Square grandstand, which will give fans unrivalled views of stars such as the Brownlee brothers racing to the line on Sunday June 12.

Ticket holders will see the elite triathletes pass them seven times on road bikes and four times on the run before they witness a thrilling sprint finish. A big screen opposite the grandstand will also show live BBC coverage.

The race will be the last chance to see the likes of Team GB stars Non Stanford, Vicky Holland and Jonny and Alistair Brownlee compete before the Rio 2016 Olympics. They will take on a 1.5km swim in Roundhay, 42.5km bike ride from Roundhay to Millennium Square and a 10km run.

Jack Buckner, chief executive of British Triathlon, said: “The Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds is the final opportunity to watch Britain’s world class triathletes race on home soil before they travel to Rio and we are expecting the city of Leeds to come out in force. The grandstand is located in the heart of the action and will provide the perfect location to watch the stars of our sport cross the finish line and deliver an atmosphere to remember.”

Grandstand tickets, available from today at 9am, cost £30 for adults and £20 for under 15s. The women’s race starts at 1pm and the men’s at 3.45pm.

Coun Judith Blake, Leeds City Council leader, said: “The opportunity for fans to be in the grandstand and watch all the action overlooking the finish line on Millennium Square promises to be a truly unforgettable experience.”
