Grants come on stream to boost river sports

The club has won £77,442 from Sport England which will be spent on expanding their fleet of boats and £50,000 has been donated from WREN to help the club build a new boatshed which will be officially opened later this year.

It is planned that the new boats will help increase participation by women and junior rowers – who are currently under-represented in the sport nationally.

The project will also improve facilities for the over 45s by providing coaching support for new adult daytime rowing sessions.

Judith Rasmussen, Sport England’s regional lead for Yorkshire, said: “If community sports clubs want to attract and retain participants, they need to be able to offer quality facilities for everyone.

“The improvements to Bradford Amateur Rowing Club’s facilities will be welcomed by regular users and those who are new to rowing.”

Opportunities for participation in rowing by the local residents will be improved with the club offering more indoor and outdoor courses designed to introduce new participants to rowing.

Cash from WREN, a not for profit organisation, has enabled the club to accommodate its new boats in new boat shed.

The project, at the club at Baildon, will increase the number of women, girls and young people who get involved in rowing.

It will also benefit the club as a whole as the new boats will free up existing resources for wider use and now club money can be gradually used to renew an ageing fleet.
