Grants on offer for ‘green’ projects

NATIONAL park chiefs have announced more than £170,000 in grants is available for green projects across the Yorkshire Dales this year.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA) says £171,000 is available to support new business ideas, community schemes and environmental projects from its sustainable development fund – which is in its ninth year.

The announcement follows warnings from its chief executive David Butterworth last week, that schemes like the community hydro project on the River Bain, which goes live this Friday, are “extremely unlikely” to take place in the near future because of public funding cuts.

The deadline for the first round of the grants which are available under the sustainable development fund is on June 10.

Applications from outside the Yorkshire Dales will be considered, as long as they show a clear benefit to the area.
