Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya at Bettys in Harrogate

In the glamorous confines of Bettys’ Imperial Room, Nadiya Hussain starred in her own Cake and Conversation event.

Customers enjoyed a rare chance to talk to Nadiya about her Bake Off experience, while enjoying Lady Betty Afternoon Tea.

Nadiya also shared stories and tips, answering questions from the exclusive audience in this elegant and intimate setting.

There was also an opportunity to decorate Bettys’ famous Fondant Fancies under Nadiya’s expert guidance.

The modest mum-of-three surprised herself when she won this year’s contest in front of a record TV audience of 13 million.

Afer winning, she told the Yorkshire Post: “When I first walked into the tent I thought someone was going to drag me out and say: ‘What are you doing in here? We’ve made a mistake.’ When I got into the final I kept thinking ‘What’s going on?’ Even when they announced my name and Paul Hollywood came over and said: ‘You’ve won’, I said ‘Are you sure?’”

The popular winner, who lives in Leeds, said her unexpeced success on the show had changed her life.

“For me, it was far more than winning a cooking show. It has given me so much confidence, confidence I had lost having been a stay-at-home mum for 10 years.

“A lot of the time it was me battling myself but I loved being on Bake Off.”

None of it would have been possible, she adds, without the support of her husband, Abdal.

She said: “He kept telling me to believe in myself even when I didn’t. Throughout the 10 weeks of filming Bake Off he did everything at home.

“He promised that the children would be fed, clothed and go to school and when I came back from filming the house was tidy, the washing was done and there was a takeaway ordered - he doesn’t cook!”

Next up for Nadiya is a family move down south closer to London to enable her to follow her dream further.
