Greatest gift for face of Live Aid

Live Aid organiser Sir Bob Geldof could be guest of honour at the wedding of a young girl who became a symbol of the Ethiopian famine 25 years ago.

Birhan Woldu is set to marry Birhanu Meresa, 29, after exchanging rings during a blessing ceremony in Qwiha, northern Ethiopia, on Sunday.

The 28-year-old, now a nurse, told reporters: "We haven't set a date for the wedding yet but I would be so proud if Bob could be there.

"I now want to have two children, one girl and one boy, for my life to be complete."

Miss Woldu's image, swept around the world in 1984 after she was filmed starving and in tears. The harrowing news footage was taken after she was given just minutes to live and was featured in the original Live Aid concerts.

But thanks to the efforts of medics and charity workers she was one of the survivors of her country's biblical famine.

Her story stayed central to the Live Aid cause, and 20 years on, she appeared on the Live 8 stage in London with Sir Bob Geldof and Madonna in 2005.
