Green light for £10m school to rise from the ashes

Plans to build a £10m school to replace buildings that burned down in December 2009 have been given the go-ahead.

Campsmount Technology College in Campsall, north of Doncaster, was destroyed when an electrical fault led to a major fire.

The school has been using temporary accommodation since March last year, but plans submitted by Doncaster Council's schools rebuilding team were approved this week.

Landscaping, access roads and sports pitches are also part of the proposals. The building work will be undertaken by Wates Construction.

Andrew Sprakes, headteacher at Campsmount Technology College, said: "We are thrilled to have come so far in such a short period of time.

"This is down to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved in the project.

"Students are very excited about the start of the new building work which will provide us with the 21st century learning environment our community deserves."

The Government announced last September that it would provide funding for the rebuild, and it is expected that work on the new school will begin in the next six months.

Doncaster Council said it had set a provisional opening date in early 2012.
