'Green revolution' set to bring jobs growth to region

Energy policy: ENERGY Secretary Ed Miliband has promised thousands of jobs in Yorkshire and Humber could be created by a "green business revolution".

The Doncaster North MP said wind farms and carbon capture and storage technology would not only bring an environmental benefit but a significant economic one.

Speaking during a visit to the Belton Household Recycling Centre near Goole, he added there would be both work in new technologies and also in traditional industries such as steel making, from contracts to build turbines.

"There is huge potential for green jobs in this area – it is where the jobs of the future are going to come from.

"It is not just a green issue, it is an economic issue," said Mr Miliband.

"There is huge potential for carbon capture and storage technology to create thousands of jobs in the region."

And he added that should his party win the election, the Government would support green businesses while claiming that under the Tories the firms would be left to fend for themselves.

The Conservatives were also campaigning hard, with Shadow International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell visiting the Mount Pleasant mosque in Batley with Tory candidate Janice Small.

Mr Mitchell said: "I have been made very welcome by those leaving Friday prayers with our message that international development will be ring-fenced by a Conservative government."
