The parents of an Indian engineering student who was shot dead on Boxing Day made an emotional visit to the scene of his murder yesterday.

Anuj Bidve, 23, was shot in the head at point-blank range as he walked along Ordsall Lane in Salford with friends.

His parents, who met Anuj’s fellow students and friends at Lancaster University earlier, visited Ordsall Lane where tributes and flowers had been left.

Father Subhash Bidve and Anuj’s mother Yogini were expected to take their son’s body home to India late yesterday.

Anuj’s family addressed the media on Ordsall Lane which was blocked off by police.

Mr Bidve said: “As you can imagine this has been an extremely difficult journey to make. Anuj was our only son and we cannot comprehend his death.”

He added: “We do not blame the people of the city for what happened. The only person we blame is the man responsible for taking Anuj away from us.”

The family laid flowers at the scene and prayed for their son.

They had been retracing Anuj’s final moments and earlier visited the hotel room where he had stayed. It has not been in use since the death of Anuj at the request of the police, acting on behalf of the family.

It is understood Anuj was on a shopping holiday with his friends and they were going to a sale.
