‘Ground-breaking’ case
The Lawrence case is regarded as one of the “most significant of its generation” by the chief Crown prosecutor for London.
Alison Saunders also paid tribute to the Lawrence family for their “perseverance and determination” in the years since Stephen’s death.
She said: “This is one of the most significant cases of this generation, changing attitudes, policing and the law. It has taken a long time and a lot of hard work to get here.
“It should be remembered that 18 years ago, a young man lost his life.
“We hope these convictions will offer some justice to the family and friends of Stephen Lawrence.”
