Group disputes claim of cost cuts at council

AN independent pressure group is at loggerheads with a council leader over claims that costs of senior management costs are being slashed at a Yorkshire council.

Although numbers of senior managers at Hull Council have steadily reduced from 28 three years ago to 19 now, the Taxpayers’ Alliance says those left are still getting pay increases.

The proposed new structure with 19 officers will cost £1.75m, down from £2.15m last year. Council leader Carl Minns said both the chief executive and deputy chief executive salaries had come down.

However, Andrew Allison, Hull and East Riding co-ordinator of the Taxpayers’ Alliance, said the majority of senior officers in post had a pay rise.

He said: “I do accept Carl Minns has been bringing down the overall salary bill but it is still rising in terms of those individuals.”
